SaskOutdoors Grant Information & Application

Application Deadlines: March 15 & October 15

  • SaskOutdoors offers grants for projects related to outdoor and/or environmental education. Projects that have been supported in the past include: camping trips, winter camping trips, canoe trips, rejuvenating school gardens/outdoor classrooms/green spaces, and school campaigns to save energy/recycle.

  • Applicants must be current members of SaskOutdoors. Projects must take place within Saskatchewan. Applicants with outstanding reports from previous grants are not eligible for future grants unless special permission is granted by SaskOutdoors.

  • The maximum grant funding amount is $500 per application. 

  • Infrastructure related expenses (such as building maintenance and improvements) are not eligible for funding. Equipment or capital expenses are eligible.

  • Preference will be given to projects that involve underrepresented groups (Indigenous people, newcomers to Canada, those who face barriers accessing outdoor and environmental education) or projects that reach areas of Saskatchewan where such opportunities are less available.

    Partnerships with other organizations are encouraged. SaskOutdoors may be able to partner to provide resources, volunteers or advice.
    Priority for projects that have not been funded before.

  • Projects are ajudicated on: inspiring a sense of wonder and play; fostering a deep connection with and appreciation of nature; environmental responsibility or stewardship; inclusivity, cooperation, and sharing; addressing gaps (in people, place or program); and longevity and impact of the project.

  • Applicants must be current members of SaskOutdoors.

  • Projects must take place within Saskatchewan.  

  • Applications will be accepted prior to March 15 and October 15 annually. You will be notified of the success of your application within one month of the application deadline.

  • Projects that are completed within 6 months of the application deadline will be given precedence.

  • Applications for projects that have already happened will not be accepted.

  • Electronic applications are preferred.

  • SaskOutdoors has an continuously expanding equipment lending library available to members. 

  • If your application is successful, we ask that you formally thank SaskOutdoors and SaskLotteries for the Grant in a school or community newspaper as well as in any other promotion related to your project (we will e-mail you our logos). A copy of these publications should accompany your final report.

  • Grant recipients are to send SaskOutdoors a report one month after the completion of the project or within one year of receiving the grant. Reports are to include the following:

    -Project overview;
    -Updated budget including copies of receipts related to the project totaling the amount of money received;
    -The number of youth and the number of adults involved in the project;
    -Any challenges or outstanding successes;
    -A copy of promotional and/or reporting materials which recognizes funding support from SaskOutdoors and SaskLotteries; and
    -1-3 pictures that SaskOutdoors can use in its publications. 

  • Reports can be written (submitted online) or take the form of a blog, video or podcast.
