What is Welcome Outdoors

Welcome Outdoors is a vibrant, community-anchored program designed to bring your local parks to life while boosting health, connection, and belonging for children, youth, newcomers, and families. By delivering live, expert-led outdoor adventures directly in your municipal green spaces, the program turns your local parks into active hubs for seasonal exploration, unstructured nature play, winter safety skills, and cross-cultural community connection. We handle the specialized facilitation, safety protocols, and gear, making it effortless for your municipality to remove financial, linguistic, and seasonal barriers for residents. It’s an easy, turn-key way to activate your civic infrastructure, build youth physical literacy, and foster a deeply connected community where every resident feels at home.

The Municipal Opportunity

Saskatchewan municipalities invest significantly in public parks, green spaces, groomed trails, and outdoor recreation facilities. However, evolving community needs present a distinct operational challenge:

Barriers to Public Asset Utilization: Municipal parks and passive green spaces sit underused by children, youth, low-income families, and newcomer populations due to financial constraints, lack of equipment, seasonal hesitation, or geographic unfamiliarity.

The Youth Physical Literacy Gap: Children and youth across all demographics are increasingly missing out on unstructured outdoor play, seasonal movement habits, and local recreational traditions, leading to physical literacy deficits and higher rates of sedentary screen time.

The Isolation & Retention Link: Social isolation affects youth, long-term residents, and newcomers alike. While local employment draws families to a municipality, family belonging, accessible active recreation, and broad social connection keep them rooted long-term.
