Mr. Wagner’s class was able to take part in two additional fieldtrips due to the generous support of SaskOutdoors and Sask Lotteries. 27 students took part as well as 4 adults. Before the trip, Leave No Trace Ethics were discussed in class and students were encouraged to practice them on each trip. Students were not allowed to use personal devices or other electronics on the trips. At Beaver Creek Conservation Area and Blackstrap Environmental Centre we took part in hands on science activities that tied in with Language Arts, Science, Health, and Social Studies curriculum units that were taught in the classroom. Activities included learning about weather, habitats and communities, rocks, minerals, and erosion, hiking, wildlife observing and identification, conservation, and sustainable practices of First Nations traditional way of life. Through the programs, students developed a deeper respect and interest in the environment and outdoor education. After the trips, students were encouraged to spend more time in the outdoors with their family and friends and become more active in protecting the planet.
