While there we planned various outdoor challenges including building a tarp shelter, fire-starting, geocaching and learning how to use compasses and completing a compass challenge. Both groups got the opportunity to do some fishing on the shoreline and to visit the Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery. During free time, students took advantage of outdoor recreation activities including volleyball, spike ball, football, and games of capture the flag. I was able to take the first group of students canoeing on the river in Moose Jaw, thanks to a Paddle Canda canoe course I accessed using PD funding also provided by Sask Outdoors!
The grade 7 and 8 trip was able to access educational programming provided by Sask Parks. They went canoeing, seine netting, on a guided hike and experienced increased learning with the guide while doing fire-starting and geocaching.
Overall both trips were a great chance for the kids to have fun while outdoors for three days! Hopefully they gained new skills and a greater appreciation for outdoor learning!
