Davidson Grade 5 students maintained an indoor garden through the winter, and an outdoor garden once it warmed up. While they previously had an indoor worm composting bin in their classroom, they wanted to expand to an outdoor composting program and include Grades K-6. A guest speaker was brought in to give a presentation to multiple grades on the benefits and methods of composting, which included a compost binkit to install at the school. The class also had a field trip that included a tour of different composting and permaculture gardening methods. Although there have been challenges and hurdles, the students have been successful in helping to create new standards for what is normal in their school and community.
