I’m pleased to say we had great trip with the youth of the Core Neighbourhood Youth Coop (CNYC)again this year. This year we had 10 CNYC youth attend the trip. We also had 6 leaders on the trip including myself.

We had lots of fun and succeeded in hiking to Grey Owl’s cabin and back over 3 days and 2 nights (a round trip of about 40km). We carried all of our gear the first 12km, set up camp for the night, spent the second day doing a day hike of the remaining 8km to the cabin and back, and then hiked the same 12 km with our packs back to the cars on day 3.

Spirits were high and we all enjoyed ourselves despite the fact that backpacking proved to be more challenging than many had expected. As packs got heavy and legs got tired, many found the true meaning of mind over matter as they proved to themselves what they were really capable of.

I think we’d all agree that the trip was a great success and are looking forward to the next edition!

Thank you to Sask Outdoors for the generous funding that makes this trip possible each year. It wouldn’t have been able to happen without having that funding available to pay for gas and food to enable the trip to run!
