This year the Grade 10 class went to Mirond Lake for a 3 night 4 day canoe trip. We left Carrot River on June 7th at 7:00 am. Fourteen students and three adults loaded up their gear and hoped on a school bus for a 4 hour bus ride. We got to Silence of the North Resort on Mirond Lake where we unloaded all our gear and canoes. We then loaded up our canoes and headed out onto the lake where we paddled for a few miles until our first portage to enter Corneille Lake. We stopped at an island for a break and then continued until we got to our camp site at Dog Rapids.

Once we arrived and took a look at the rapids we started to set up camp. We put up tents, got fire wood, and prepared supper. After supper the kids had free time to just rest, canoe or fish. Once night fall came we enjoyed a few hours around the camp fire and went to bed.

The next morning we got up and went out on to the Sturgeon Weir for a day trip. We had to make a few small portages and ended up at a little lake with a nice little waterfall where some of us took advantage and cleaned up. We then spent some time on shore having a wiener roast and a little rest. We then backed up and headed back to camp. We arrived at camp around supper time where we went fishing and had a great fish fry. Everyone was tired so we went to bed early.

The next morning we packed up and headed out to our next camp site which was an island on Corneille Lake. The wind was picking up and by the time we got to the island it was too wavy to go on our next day trip. We set up came and put some tarps up to block the wind. We had to stay put for the whole day.

We knew it was going to get windy as the day went on so we got up early to beat the wind. Once we got to shore we cleaned up the canoes, loaded everything and headed home. We arrived back at Carrot River Friday June 10th at 5:00pm.

It was a great trip that is talked about for years after the students leave school. Thank you to SaskOutdoors and Sask Lotteries for the grant assistance. We will be sending out a school news letter at the end of the year where we will have recognition of Sask Lotteries.
