Fall Sound Walk
In fall, the crunch of leaves underfoot, the whish of wind through branches, and the chitter of squirrels create a symphony of seasonal sounds. Try a Fall Sound Walk to and explore with your ears.
What Do I Do?:
- Choose a Location: Find a peaceful outdoor space, such as a park, nature trail, or even your backyard. Avoid busy streets or noisy areas to maximize your listening experience.
- Prepare to Walk Quietly: As you start walking, focus on moving slowly and quietly. Try to minimize other distractions like talking or rustling your clothes.
- Listen and Observe: Pay close attention to the sounds of nature around you. Listen to the wind in the trees, rustling leaves, chirping birds, squirrels scurrying, and other subtle sounds.
- Pause Frequently: Stop at different intervals to concentrate on specific sounds. Close your eyes for a few moments to heighten your sense of hearing. Take note of the differences between areas—how do the sounds change between the woods and an open field?
- Keep a Journal: After your walk, sit down in a quiet spot and write about your experience. What sounds stood out to you? How did the environment change as you walked? You can also record the sounds during your walk to listen to later.
