Winter Camping with Sled Dogs

Great Blue Heron Provincial Park, SK
Winter Camping with Sled Dogs

Looking to shake off your hibernation early?

Join SaskOutdoors for winter camping in the boreal forest fringe, in Great Blue Heron Provincial Park.

Connect with the crew at a cabin on Emma Lake on Friday night, then spend two days skiing and learning to run a dog team with Sundogs Excursions, while exploring Saskatchewan's edge of the largest forest region in Canada. No previous experience is necessary.

Sundogs guide-hosts share their love and in-depth knowledge of the landscape with you as the team takes you through the mosaic of woods, muskegs and lakes that are the boreal forest.

Look forward to programming that covers the skills of living and traveling in winter while marveling at its majesty! Mini-workshops abound. Diverse meals will demonstrate various winter camping options, water and wood collection will help crystalize winter camping logistics, and witnessing the gregarious chatter of grey jays in camp will reveal what the magic of winter camping is all about...

You’re welcome to take personal time too - head out for a walk along the frozen shoreline, wander with endless animal tracks, or journal beside a crackling fire...

Our night on the trail is in a traditional, wood heated, trapper's-style wall tent.

The howl of the huskies outside might even be your wilderness lullaby.
