Elsa Graupe

We would like to nominate Elsa Graupe for the Cydney Weir Award. Elsa is 19 years old and a 2nd year Bachelor of Education Student at the U of S. She is very passionate about land and place-based learning, and keen to develop her practice as a new and aspiring teacher.
We would like to nominate Elsa Graupe for the Cydney Weir Award. Elsa is 19 years old and a 2nd year Bachelor of Education Student at the U of S. She is very passionate about land and place-based learning, and keen to develop her practice as a new and aspiring teacher.

She has taken part in additional training this year, including Below Zero with SaskOutdoors to expand her practice. Elsa has been employed by Wildernook since September 2021 as an assistant educator for the Nature Playcare and Forest School After School programs. The kids in these programs look up to Elsa as a mentor and positive role model. She is out teaching in all types of weather, including up to -25C this season. Some of the activities she has facilitated with Wildernook include play based learning, fire building, tree climbing, and building tarp shelters. Elsa is reflective and responsive in her teaching, considering how to foster nature relationships with kids. Elsa is enthusiastic about being outdoors in all weather, and spends her free time biking, skiing, hiking, paddling, and snowshoeing. Elsa has spent the past 3 summers as a leader at Kinasao Camp, facilitating environmental stewardship programming and outdoor activities for a variety of children.
