Workshop Details
The program uses watersports and related activities to increase Canadians’ awareness of the environment and wildlife habitat. It includes an extensive range of online resources that promote awareness, appreciation and action. Each participant received a WILD about Sports manual
WILD About Sport is created by the Canadian Wildlife Federation and you can get more details on the program from their website.
What you Learn
The WILD About Sports guide features 20 activities that will build your confidence in using conservation messaging as they work with groups and individuals outdoors and in, on and around the water.
With the WILD About Sports activity guide, you’ll explore topics and concepts such as:
- Aquatic wildlife
- Charting and navigation
- Food webs
- Invasive species
- Migration
- Tides
- Plastics and ocean garbage
- Water cycle
- Watersheds
- And much more!
Applied Benefits
WILD About Sports helps learners develop the awareness, knowledge, skills and commitment needed to make informed decisions and to take constructive action for wildlife, habitat and the environment.
- Activities are designed to be infused into mandated curriculum subjects such as art, health, language arts, math, music, physical education, science and social studies.
- The guide can be used by both classroom teachers and non-formal educators, including resource specialists, conservation officers, camp counsellors and Scout and Guide leaders.
- The guide contains all the information needed to successfully plan and run each activity (objectives, key ideas, list of materials, procedures and discussion questions).
WILD About Sports activity guides can be obtained by participating in an introductory workshop where you will become a certified WILD Educator.
