Water Water Everywhere
Dive into the world of freshwater ecology and hydrology right in your schoolyard or classroom! Water Water Everywhere is an interactive, hands-on workshop that introduces students to the water cycle, watershed dynamics, water quality, and aquatic conservation. Guided by an experienced SaskOutdoors facilitator, students explore the movement and importance of water in Saskatchewan through model-building, scientific testing, hands-on experiments, and active ecological games.
Appropriate for:
Grade Levels: K–12 students (activities, scientific rigor, and experiment complexity are tailored specifically to your class’s age group).
Group Sizes: Standard single-classroom sizes (20–30 students per session).
Settings: Elementary science classes, secondary Earth and Environmental Science units, outdoor education programs, or geography and ecology modules.

What you Learn
The Water Cycle & Watersheds: How water moves through land, atmosphere, and local watersheds, including runoff, absorption, and groundwater systems.
Water Quality & Aquatic Life: Key indicators of aquatic health (pH, turbidity, temperature, and aquatic macroinvertebrates) and how they affect ecosystem health.
Local Saskatchewan Water Systems: Understanding prairie watersheds, wetlands, and the role water plays in local natural and human communities.
Water Stewardship: Practical actions students can take to prevent water pollution, conserve local water resources, and protect wetland habitats.
Applied Benefits
Direct Curriculum Connections (Saskatchewan Science & Social Studies):
-
-
Kindergarten – Grade 2: Observing properties of liquids, seasonal changes in weather and water, and basic animal water needs.
-
Grades 3 – 5: Exploring landforms, soil erosion, wetland ecosystems, and the properties of water and weather systems.
-
Grades 6 – 8: Analyzing water systems on Earth, human impact on local watersheds, aquatic biodiversity, and ecosystem conservation.
-
High School (Environmental Science / Earth Science): Aquatic ecology, water quality management, hydrology, and environmental stewardship.
-
STEM & Inquiry-Based Learning: Engages students in real-world scientific testing and problem-solving through active experiments.
Environmental Responsibility: Builds personal connection and responsibility toward local lakes, rivers, and wetland ecosystems.
