Adventurous Journey Guide Call for Proposals
March 2, 2020
SaskOutdoors is accepting proposals for the delivery of an Adventurous Journey program presented jointly between SaskOutdoors and the Duke of Edinburgh International Award - Canada - Saskatchewan Inc. The deadline for submitting proposals is March 31, 2020.
The Adventurous Journey Program is comprised of two events plus preliminary training. There will be 6-8 participants between the ages of 15-20 plus one adult representative from the Duke of Edinburgh. The practice journey will take place over one night (suggested June 6-7) near Regina (suggested locations Dallas Valley Ranch Camp, Lumsden Beach Camp, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park). The adventurous journey will take place over 3 nights (suggested July 10-13) at Grasslands National Park. The interpretive staff at Grasslands National Park will provide some programming. Program content should include Leave No Trace Principles, basic first aid and emergency planning, map reading and route planning, compass work and navigation, cooking and menu planning, equipment knowledge, observation and recording skills, and team building and leadership.
Bookings and logistical arrangements will be made in partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh staff. The Duke of Edinburgh staff will manage the registrations, promotion, finances and carry appropriate participant insurance. The guide will be required to carry personal insurance, provide a description of the camp, answer participant questions, provide a gear list for participants and submit an invoice. The guide must have appropriate training and certifications to safely and competently lead a group of new and experienced campers. Proof of this experience and certification is required. It is required that the participants are able to take a leadership role in planning the adventurous journey. This can take place at the practice trip and through in person or videoconference sessions prior to the trip.
