Bud Watching
Spring is a season of growth and renewal, and observing a single tree over time reveals the rhythms of nature. Connect with the land, notice seasonal changes, and create a month-long movement and observation routine.
What Do You Do?
- Select one tree in a safe outdoor space to observe.
- Visit the tree weekly for a month
- Observe and record details such as:
- Bud swelling
- Changes in leaf or flower color
- Signs of bird or insect activity around the tree
- Move around the tree to observe from different angles.
- Reflect on changes and patterns over time, noting how weather or other natural events affect the tree.
- Optionally, sketch or journal your observations to track growth and wildlife interactions.
What Do You Need?
- Weather appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes
- Notebook, sketchpad, or digital device for recording observations
- Optional: binoculars for observing birds
- Access to a single tree in a safe outdoor space
Safety Considerations:
