Jillian Heideker

Jillian Heideker - recipient of the 2025 Cydney Weir Award for Youth Environmental Leadership.

Jillian’s passion for the environment and conservation shines through in everything she does. In the fall of 2024, while still in high school, Jillian designed and delivered an engaging outdoor education program for students in grades 3–6 at her local library. Her program inspired young learners to explore nature, develop an appreciation for wildlife, and understand the importance of protecting our natural ecosystems.

At just 17 years old, Jillian demonstrated exceptional maturity, leadership, and initiative by creating and leading this program while balancing her own studies. Her love of the outdoors—whether fishing with her family, exploring local ecosystems, or simply spending time in nature—drives her commitment to conservation and environmental education.

Jillian is now pursuing Environmental Studies at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Forestry, continuing her journey to make a positive impact on the world. Her work is a testament to the difference one dedicated young leader can make in her community and beyond.
