Outdoor Yoga

Outdoor Yoga

Mindfulness and yoga help us feel calm and focused by connecting our breath and body. Stretch tall like a tree, or stand strong and still like a mountain!

What  Do You Do?

  1. Choose a quiet, grassy outdoor space like a park, field, or backyard.
  2. Begin with a short introduction about how nature can help us feel calm, strong, and balanced.
  3. Lead a yoga session using poses inspired by animals and nature—like Cat-Cow, Tree Pose, Butterfly, Downward Dog, Cobra, and Star Pose.
    1. Kids Yoga Poses
    2. Flow and Grow Yoga
    3. Kids Yoga Stories
    4. Yoga Poses
  4. Encourage children to breathe deeply, listen to the sounds around them, and feel the ground beneath their feet.
  5. End with a short relaxation (child’s pose or lying on backs) and a guided visualization of being in a peaceful natural place.

What Do You Need?

  1. Yoga mats or picnic blankets (optional if the grass is soft)
  2. A simple list or printout of kid-friendly yoga poses
  3. A water bottle for each child
  4. Optional: nature-themed music or wind chimes for ambiance
  5. Optional: storybook or cards with nature yoga prompts
  6. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing

Safety Considerations:

Check the area for sharp objects, uneven ground, or bugs before beginning. Ensure children have space to move without bumping into each other. Provide shade on hot days and ensure hydration. Encourage children to only stretch within their comfort zone. Supervise closely and modify poses if needed for age or ability level.
