Protecting our World Strategy: A First Nations Environmental Protection Framework

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations

Conservation, First Nations, Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 7, Native Studies 10, Environmental Science 20

First Nation people have a long and intimate history with their traditional homelands and possess traditional beliefs and have cultures that are centered on their interconnectedness with the land and the Creator. The FSIN wishes to incorporate these beliefs and principles within a First Nation Protecting our World Strategy that includes many aspects of contemporary life that our ancestors did not realize would exist, such as electricity, natural gas, and other fueled energy sources. Although the contemporary and historic lifestyles are very different, traditional principles remain relevant today and are therefore integral to and intertwined within the Protecting our World Strategy, which is intended to promote healthy and dynamic living in First Nation communities.
