Boreal Watershed Monitoring Project

Saskatchewan Environmental Society

The?Boreal Water Monitoring project is a partnership between SES, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, the University of Saskatchewan, and the elders, teachers, and students at each participating school. Students from several northern schools take part in workshops and water monitoring in their communities. Workshops are activity-oriented, including inquiry around the issues affecting healthy watersheds. Students learn to take water samples, do a variety of water testing and water-related research, and send monthly samples to the Saskatchewan Research Council for chemical laboratory tests.

This program is currently offered to 6 schools from northern Saskatchewan and they don’t have the ability to make it a larger program at this time. During each year, they travel to each school for 3 half day to full day workshops (fall, winter and spring).
