True Nature Writing

Try something new! Sask Outdoors is partnering with writing teacher Joyce Belcher to offer a four-class series of True Nature Writing.

True Nature Writing is a way of writing that helps us find our voice and stay ahead of the inner critic. In guided sessions, inspired by poetry and prompts, we write fast and messy, watching our words and stories tumble out, meeting ourselves on the page, and shining a light on our own rich lives. In this special SaskOutdoors series, we will take inspiration from nature in winter.

This is a chance to indulge your desire to write, engage your creativity, and write into a deeper relationship with nature. Leave feeling full and inspired with pieces of truth that may be the start of something more.

Participant Testimonial (Andrea):

Writing is not something that is comfortable or comes easily to me, and yet, True Nature Writing sessions with Joyce have become something to which I look forward. TNW stimulates creative output in both my personal and professional life, and I find the process to be compelling, supportive, and insightful.

I’ve appreciated setting a sliver of time aside each week to cozy up to my inner world and let words flow from my pen, as well as the opportunity to hear the words of others in response to Joyce’s thoughtfully-selected prompts. The TNW process cuts through writing barriers – unravelling stories, revealing truth, and helping identify and articulate that which makes meaning in our everyday experience. The colours in my world are more saturated because of TNW.

I am thoroughly looking forward to this online session that embraces the winter spirit in Saskatchewan.

With each of us writing and connecting from the comfort of our own homes – be they apartments, cabins, or snow caves! – we’ll be sharing with and learning alongside a diversity of voices and wintery nature from around the province. Count me in!

We will meet online, via the Zoom video platform, and our writing will take us to the places that matter. You’ll need a computer, a reliable internet connection, and a quiet spot to sit. You'll also need a notebook and pen, and maybe a mug of tea.

Thursday evenings: February 28, March 7, 14 and 21, 7-8:30pm SK time (CST).
Limited to 7 participants
$100 for Sask Outdoors members, $110 for non-members. Some financial assistance is available from Sask Outdoors. Please contact us for details.
