SaskOutdoors Winter Camp
Dec 5, 2020 - Dec 6, 2020
Looking to ward off hibernation and ‘celebrate the season’ early?
Join SaskOutdoors for our annual winter camp – this year, in the boreal forest of Prince Albert National Park!
All skill levels are welcome! If you’ve always wondered what winter camping was about, this is the camp for you! Whether you're a newcomer to Saskatchewan, camping, or winter, or you’re a seasoned outdoorsperson, we’ve got a comfortable seat for you around the fire.
Experienced guides Colin Frey, Renewed by Nature, and Andrea Nelson, Sundogs Excursions, will share their love and in-depth knowledge of the landscape and winter travel with you, all-the-while kindling your own set of skills and stories for all-season adventuring.
Winter Camp will help you appreciate Saskatchewan’s snowy season and highlight techniques that keep you warm, dry, and well-fed during winter activities.
We’ll cover winter-specific Leave No Trace techniques, so your outings can remain low-impact. Diverse meals will demonstrate various winter camping options, water and wood collection will help crystalize winter camping logistics, knife-skills and fire-building sessions will satisfy camp-craft amateurs and aficionados alike, and witnessing the gregarious chatter of grey jays in camp might reveal what the quiet magic of winter camping is all about...
This is a learn-by doing event. The goal of this camp is for participants to learn the necessary skills to winter camp safely and comfortably so that they may go unassisted the next weekend they choose to indulge in some frosty fun.
Don’t be surprised if you have a new ‘favourite season’ after this weekend!
